Pretty Nice

Hello

Today we are going to Muse about Florida.   If this is your first visit, welcome to Musings. If you have been here before, welcome back. Over time we are going to talk about many things: the past, the present, perhaps the future, travel, art, society and more. Wherever my musing takes me. I hope you will come along with me.

Pretty Nice !

I moved to Florida twenty-five years ago.  Other than a business conference in Miami Beach in 1970 and a brief stay in Pensacola when I was about 3 years old, I had never been to Florida.  It was a job that brought me here from California.

My expectations were mixed.  The job opportunity was exciting but most of what I had heard about Florida was not.  Hurricanes, humidity, bugs . . . that about sums up my expectation back then.

Today, I was walking the dog and I was struck once again with the beauty of  Florida, especially where we live . . .West Palm Beach.  We live in the south end of town in a block which borders the Intracoastal Waterway.  I’ll share a bit of it with you.

One of the first things you notice is the quiet streets.

It is not possible to go further east because of the water.  For the most part the only people driving in the neighborhood live in the neighborhood.  Bicycles, joggers, dog walkers and baby strollers . . .that is our traffic.

And of course you notice the Intracoastal Waterway.  On a pretty day it is host to many boaters.

The three draw bridges connecting West Palm Beach to Palm Beach open at set times on the hour and effect the traffic patterns of course.

This is the Southern Bridge and it is scheduled to be replaced in the next several years.  Currently a second bridge, the North Bridge, is under construction.

And of course, if you cross over the bridges you come to the beach.

More to come.
