Leaf me be

Hello

Today we are going to Muse about the neighborhood.  If this is your first visit, welcome to Musings. If you have been here before, welcome back. Over time we are going to talk about many things: the past, the present, perhaps the future, travel, art, society and more. Wherever my musing takes me. I hope you will come along with me.

Leaf me be

Did you ever see something for the first time that has been there all along?

We have lived on our street for twelve years.  I walk the dog up and down the street at least twice daily.  So this street is not new to me.

Today I was walking Teddy for his morning business when I looked at my neighbor’s house.

And I thought “Why would you do that?”

In one of my previous lives, my then brother-in-law and his wife purchased a home that had been owned by the actor, Boris Karloff.  Karloff had planted Bougainvillea around several columns supporting the roof of the loggia.  Over time the Bougainvillea grew so large that it completely enveloped the columns and eventually damaged the loggia, requiring an  expensive repair.  Since then I have never had an interest in planting things that would grow up my walls.

So, I thought “Why would you do that?”  and “That is a strange thing to do.”

But, you know, it is not!

As I continued my walk I looked at the houses I pass everyday and this is what I saw

Wow!  I had seen this before but I never realized how common it is.  There are seventeen homes on our street.  Ten are shown here.

The one I always think about is next door.  He is really into landscaping.

But nothing grows up the wall.
