Return from Mexico

Hello

Today we are going to Muse about San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.   If this is your first visit, welcome to Musings. If you have been here before, welcome back. Over time we are going to talk about many things: the past, the present, perhaps the future, travel, art, society and more. Wherever my musing takes me. I hope you will come along with me.

Return from Mexico

For the past two plus months we have been in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.  Well, except for last week which we spent with a friend in California waiting for the power to come back to our home in Florida following Hurricane Irma.

Over the last twelve years we have gone to San Miguel de Allende (SMA) many times.  We now know people and the lay of the town, so it is sort of like a second home.  Being away from my computer pretty much shut down my Musings.  That is why you have not heard much from me.  Now we are back and I will try to catch up.

You may wonder why we are drawn to SMA.  It is a place of wonder, exotic and colorful,  full of strange and captivating people and customs.  Let me take you for a short trip.

In the center of town there is the central plaza called El Jardin.  It is anchored by La Parroquia, a large Gothic style church.  You see here, its spires dominating the skyline.
The church dates to the 1600’s, though the spires were added about a 100 years ago.

The Jardin is a meeting and gathering place full of people and vendors.

and really is the center of town.  Nearby are other churches and parks where people gather.  They can be places of drama.

This is a town of narrow streets, built before the advent of the automobile.  The buildings are colorful and several centuries old.

And like any good place there are many things to do:  theater, galleries, restaurants, spas and shopping.  Of course, shopping!
